Koningskwartier kicks off with the most durable pre-wired tube
If partners work together, they can make greater strides in sustainability. Construction company Van Wijnen, installation company Hoffman DME and cable manufacturer Draka have proven this. While the first construction phase of Koningskwartier had already been completed, they joined forces to make an extra 'green' step by using Draka PROFIT E-LINE pre-wired pipe.
Mark van Scheijndel walks with a new 50 m roll of PROFIT E-LINE to one of the houses under construction. The chief engineer of Hoffman DME kneels near a prefab concrete interior wall with collapsed wall sockets and cuts open the seal packaging. Within a few minutes he cuts the pipe, pulls the three cores through the rigid pipe and lays the pipe over the rough concrete floor to the next wall socket. “It works just fine, just like the regular pre-wired pipe from Draka.”

It will not be up to the technicians to switch to Draka PROFIT E-LINE. The innovative product is easy to process. Ease of installation and durability can go well together. Draka recently launched the new product on the market and the first large-scale application is already taking place in Koningskwartier. No fewer than 37 of the 57 homes will have a low-voltage installation with this most sustainable wire-in-tube cable solution. In total, the detached, semi-detached and lifelong homes will receive 35 km of PROFIT E-LINE. The large-scale application is an international first.
Inspiring
Koningskwartier is just one example of sustainability. The need to build new homes more sustainably exists throughout the country. Manufacturers such as Draka are playing a pioneering role in this by developing and producing more sustainable solutions, such as PROFIT E-LINE. Supply creates demand. But to actually apply these innovations, other parties are also needed, especially specifiers, contractors and installers. The residential area is also an inspiring example in that respect.
Ambitious
Hoffman DME often collaborates with Van Wijnen on projects. The total installer and the developing builder share the ambitions in the field of sustainable construction. Marcel Goudriaan, executor: “The demand for sustainability is growing from the market and the government. We also want to score as high as possible in terms of sustainability. In the background, Hoffman DME is busy with all kinds of things. We have various collection stations, from fluorescent tubes and central heating pumps to meter cupboards. We also always try to have as little waste as possible, even if no strict requirements are set in a project. That is partly why we apply PROFIT E-LINE here.”
To collaborate
Hoffman DME, Van Wijnen and Draka quickly joined forces for Koningskwartier. All three believe in the sustainable performance and more than 20 percent lower CO2 footprint of PROFIT E-LINE. Yet Goudriaan understands that a higher purchasing price can prevent many construction parties from immediately using new, more sustainable construction products. “The call from installers is only now starting to come in.” At the same time, he realizes that there must also be a will to become more sustainable: “We can only achieve the climate goals if all construction partners make a little effort to become more sustainable. We need eachother."
